Daniel’s body was found last week on Mt. Seymour, not far from where we were searching.

We are taking some time to understand what happens next.
We love you, Daniel. We miss you.

Thanks for all your kind thoughts and assistance.

DBPanierDaniel’s bicycle and helmet were found locked near the Hyannis Pt entrance to the Baden Powell Trail (lower Seymour area), as if he walked from there. Daniel may have taken his blue, top-loading mec bike panier (pictured here) with him.

North Shore Search and Rescue teams searched the area around the bicycle on Friday and Saturday (June 12 and 13), and friends and family continued searching and putting up posters on Sunday and Monday (June 14 and 15). Almost everyone we met on the trail was already aware that Daniel was missing – your help spreading awareness has been invaluable.

Our sense now is that we have done what we can with active searching. If you are out on the North Shore, continuing to spread awareness and keep an eye out is helpful, but please don’t disrupt your life to go there. Above all, please remain safe.

We have updated the poster online (https://josieshoes.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/danielhughesposter2.pdf). Printed posters are no longer available for pickup. If you walk by a poster, it may be worth writing on it that the bicycle was found in the lower Seymour area, and that Daniel may have a blue panier with him.

Loving, kind thoughts are also helpful.
Thanks for all.
Our family

On Sunday morning, our family is planning to walk the mountain bike trails surrounding the location where Daniel’s bicycle was found on Friday. These are just beyond the area visited by the North Shore Search and Rescue today. If you wish, join us.

We will be meeting at the Old Mushroom Parking Lot on Mt. Seymour Rd. at 10:30am Sunday (June 14). The parking lot is at the second switchback of the road up to Mt. Seymour, as shown on the map below

Bring everything you need to be safe, confident and self-sufficient on the trails (water, food, cell phone, hiking shoes, suitable clothing, etc). Compasses, gps units, radios, topo maps, and things we haven’t thought of may also be useful.

If you are coming, please e-mail (preferred) at josie.shoes+daniel@gmail.com so we have an idea of numbers.

Thanks for all your efforts and kind thoughts.
love and light,
Our family

Daniel’s Bicycle Found

June 13, 2009

Daniel’s bicycle has been found and a formal search has been initiated in the Mt. Seymour area. Some details are available from news articles.

There may soon be ways that you can help – please keep checking this website. Meanwhile, the search and rescue team has asked friends and family to stay away from the immediate area, so that they can carry out their work. Please respect their request.

Your prayers and well wishes are valuable.

Daniel Hughes has been missing from Vancouver since Friday, as reported by the CBC.

Daniel is probably somewhere in the Vancouver area, and we feel it is in character that he may have gone to the North Shore or other forested or mountainous places. He was riding a distinctive yellow Marinoni road bike with red decals, black wheels and racing handlebars, two water bottle holders, and mirrors (see photo below). If you see or have seen Daniel or a bicycle matching this description, please call Vancouver police at 604-717-3321.Daniel with bike

Daniel would have likely ridden on paved roads or easy trails, but he may have gotten off his bike and walked. If he had a bike accident and went off the road, he could be hidden in bushes.

We are asking for people to help by putting up posters and keeping an eye out. Specifically, ways to help find Daniel are: put up posters in south western BC, walk in Vancouver, walk trails and good cycling routes on the North Shore and other places in the Vancouver area (Please be extremely safe! If in doubt, don’t go), and pass this information on to others.

The poster is available for printing: here or printed waterproof posters are available for pickup at:

Qi Integrated Health
2618 West Broadway
Vancouver, BC

Open Monday – Friday: 10 am – 8 pm Saturday: 10 am – 4 pm

You can post information about where you have looked or put posters at http://danielhughes.wikispaces.com. You can also find location suggestions at this site. Please add to the suggestions if you have ideas. I’m sure we haven’t thought of everything.

I will post any important updates or information to this blog.

Daniel’s family and all the many incredible friends who wish so much for Daniel’s safe return thank you.
Love and light to all.
